Every bride imagines their wedding day turning out to be a magical moment in time. Then their wedding day arrives and everything seems to work out perfectly. Regrettably, many discover that some of their photographs don’t seem to live up to their experience. Most of the photographs are beautiful, but the action sequences including the bouquet and garter toss just weren’t photographed well. The timing of the photographs and the angle at which they were taken all seem to be off. What went wrong? What can you do to help ensure that the photographs of your bouquet and garter toss turn out sensational?

1. Be aware of your wedding photographer. Have your DJ announce when your bouquet and garter toss are going to happen ahead of time. The DJ should make sure the photographer is positioned and ready before beginning the toss. Consult with your photographer about where you should be positioned for the best result. An experienced photographer will be looking at the light sources and paying attention to the background. The detailed timeline of your wedding that you create is important and should be given to your photographer prior to the event, however, I have yet to experience a wedding that has turned out exactly as planned.

2. Fake the bouquet and garter toss a couple times. Action shots are definitely more difficult to photograph than stationery pictures. Act like you are going to throw the bouquet and garter a few times to give your wedding photographer several opportunities to capture the action.

3. Have more than one photographer. Two photographers will give you multiple angles of your bouquet and garter toss. This will definitely increase the chance of getting that perfect shot. For example, one photographer can capture the bride throwing the bouquet, while the other photographs all the single females catching the bouquet.

You now have the knowledge to ensure great photographs of your bouquet and garter toss! Remember to communicate with your photographer. Now go out and get sensational action shots at your wedding!
