Selecting the perfect wedding photographer for your special day can be a serious challenge. How are you supposed to make an informed decision when the market is literally flooded with photographers? Honestly, haven’t you noticed that just about everyone you meet either is a photographer or knows someone who is a photographer? So, what is the secret?

The secret to selecting the right photographer is … [drumroll] … asking the right questions. Ask your potential photographers the following questions and you will be well on your way to ending your quest for the perfect wedding photographer.

1. Are you available for my wedding date?
There is absolutely no point in continuing the conversation if the photographer is not available.

2. Is your business incorporated?
This shows how serious your wedding photographer is about his/her business. If they have taken the time and spent the money to form a business entity, this will prove they are serious about what they do.

3. Does your business have liability insurance?
Once again, if the photographer has spent the money to insure their business, they are committed to what they do.

4. How long have you been photographing weddings?
This question seems obvious, however, it is surprising how many times our potential clients have not asked us this question.

5. How many weddings have you photographed?
It is wonderful if a photographer has, for example, 5 years of experience shooting weddings, but not if they have only photographed 3 weddings during that time period.

6. Do you have any published work?
This is a great way to determine not only the talent of a photographer, but also how seriously they take their business. It takes time and normally money as well to submit photographs into contests.
