How To Act Like A Professional Model At Your Next Photo Shoot

Houston Bridal Photography by Nubia Photography, LLC

So, you have a photo shoot coming up and you have no clue what to expect or how to act? Need tips? Imagine … you will be able to act like a professional model, all because you read this post. Regardless of whether you aspire to become a professional model, or you have a high school senior portrait session scheduled or you are getting married and want your engagement, bridal and wedding photographs to look fabulous, these tips are for you. You will be more comfortable and your pictures will come out beautifully!

Without further ado, here are the tips:

1. The fewer the people the better: Only bring one other person to your photo shoot if possible. You will be a lot more comfortable if your family or friends are not staring at you while you are on your photo shoot.

2. Relax, Relax, Relax: A photograph will show emotions, if you are uncomfortable or stressed it will show in the camera. Take big breaths and breath slowly. Make sure that your shoulders are not tense.

3. Act the part: Think about what you want the picture to look like. Do you want a romantic feel? Focus on having a soft look. A soft smile, dreamy eyes, wear lighter softer colors and make up, think about the person you love. If you want something energetic and fun, dance, jump, scream and raise your arms. Use your body language and eyes to convey emotions. Engage, flirt, or hate the camera. The possibilities are endless!

4. Variety is the key so you will have more choices to pick from. Change your expressions from happy, sad, romantic, sexy, confident, with attitude etc.

5. Change your look. You can do this by changing your outfit, your hair, make-up and attitude.

6. Lower one shoulder more than the other. This looks great in photos and creates interesting compositions.

7. Lean forward on some of the shots to become more personal with the camera.

8. Do not always look at the camera. Some of best pictures are the ones which look like candid images, but they were actually planned.

9. Try lowering your chin and look straight into the camera. This is a great angle that works for most people.

10. Ask for direction: Do not hesitate to ask for direction from your professional photographer. If you are not sure about a pose, ask the photographer what they think and always share your ideas.

Okay, so this won’t turn you into professional model, but it will give you a great opportunity to make the most out of your next photo shoot. Good luck and have fun!
